Adult oneg Friday, January 17 at 7:30: Ben Shneiderman on the life and work of celebrated photographer David Seymour (Note corrected location information) #cybershetl

Jason Hillman

Our next adult oneg, on Friday evening, January 17 at 7:30, will feature our own Ben Shneiderman, who will introduce us to the celebrated work of his uncle David Seymour, known as Chim (pronounced in the French manner as "Shim"). One of the most prominent photojournalists of the twentieth century and a founder of the Magnum photo agency along with Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Capa, Chim documented his turbulent era in some of the century's recognizable photos, which appeared in Life and other major outlets. Born David Szymin in Poland in 1911, he photographed the Spanish Civil War, the children of postwar Europe, major celebrities, and the founding of Israel, among other subjects. Without doubt you know some of his pictures. He died covering the British-French-Israeli Suez campaign in 1956. Ben will show images and discuss his life.

The oneg will take place in Suite 404 at 4405 East West Highway in Bethesda, right down the street from B-CC. (Please note that the suite number was previously erroneously announced as 401.) Kehilaites Mona Mendelson and Jan Dommerholt have kindly made available a comfortable classroom at the office of their Myopain Seminars organization, which is well suited to a visually oriented program and conveniently located. Snacks and desserts are welcome.
